Finding a Father’s Day gift is often harder than finding one for Mother’s Day. He says he doesn’t want anything, and he already has three ties and a barbecue apron. A photo engraved on slate is a gift that asks nothing of anyone: he puts it on his desk, in the workshop or in the garage, and there it stays. We engrave them to order in our workshop in Talais, in the Médoc.
In France, Father’s Day falls on the third Sunday of June: 20 June in 2027.
The right photo
Think about what he really loves, and about the photo he keeps on his own phone.
With the children. The children on his shoulders, the first fishing trip, the graduation photo. A photo where he is laughing is better than one where he is posing.
With his dog. For many fathers, this is the photo that matters most. A portrait on the 28 cm round slate, with the dog’s name underneath, like our “Luna” slate.
With his passion. His boat, his old car, his motorbike, the biggest fish he ever caught. One condition: he and the object must both be large in the picture. A tiny rowing boat on a huge estuary gives an engraving where all you see is water.
The engraving is black and white, and it keeps only the light: a sharp photo, taken in daylight, not backlit, gives the best result. The rest of our tips are in engraving a photo on slate, which photo to choose.
Motifs that suit him
In advanced mode, on the personalisation page, you can add text and motifs to the photo. Among those that suit a father: the anchor, the sailboat, the lighthouse, the grapes, the wine glass, the fish, the paw print. For the text, one line is enough: “Dad since 2012”, the children’s names, or his nickname.
As for lettering, plain upright fonts often suit a gift for a father better than very handwritten styles. But you are the one who knows him.
It is not a cheese board
We mention it because the idea comes quickly: when people think “slate” and “Father’s Day”, they often think of a board for nibbles with drinks. Our slates are painted so that the engraving comes out white, and that paint is not made for contact with food. It is a decorative object, delivered with a support to stand it upright and pads so it doesn’t scratch the furniture.
Ordering in time
The slate is engraved within 48 to 72 hours, then delivered in 3 to 5 working days. For 20 June 2027, order before 10 June. If you live near Talais, collection from the workshop is free. And if you won’t see him that day, the “It’s a gift” option at checkout sends the parcel to his home, with no invoice inside and your note on a card.
The slate costs €49.90, engraving and support included. Delivery is free within France from three slates: a good excuse to think of grandad too. To get started, choose the 30 × 30 cm square slate or the 28 cm round slate in the shop.
