Engraved slate, to stand or to hang
The 28 cm round slate, the one in our photos: Luna's portrait, the baby scan, the proposal. In the decorative finish, three coats of paint (white, grey, black) bring out the shades of the photo, and the stand that comes with it keeps it upright.
On painted slate, the engraving comes out white and reads from across the room: a family photo on a sideboard, a portrait of your dog, a date that matters.
Every slate is engraved to order in our Talais workshop, in the Médoc, France, then cleaned, fitted with protective pads, packed and shipped by us. Nobody else handles it.
Our slates are decorative items: we paint them in three coats, white, grey then black, for a bright white engraving with strong contrast. Once painted, they are not meant for food contact: no food or drinks on them.

Natural slate, painted by hand
Slate is a stone: each piece has its own edges, shades and small irregularities. Once engraved it turns light grey, with a matte look that brings out every line.
We paint every slate in three coats before engraving. The laser cuts through the black and reveals the white: the engraving becomes crisp and high-contrast, ideal for a photo.

All about our slates
How long until I receive my slate?
We engrave, finish and pack your order within 48 to 72 hours. The carrier then delivers it in 3 to 5 working days depending on the service chosen. For business orders over 10 batches, we give you a firm date.
Can I serve food on these slates?
No. Our slates are painted (white, grey, black) so the engraving stands out: they are decorative items, not meant for food contact. No food, drinks or water on them.
Can you improve my photo and layout?
Yes, with the layout by the workshop option (+€20). We rework your photos and text: framing, contrast, size and placement, so the engraving comes out at its best. You get the mockup by email, and we only engrave once you approve it. You tell us whether everything suits you before we go ahead.
Can I see the result before engraving?
The customisation page preview shows your text or photo on the slate. If we think a photo won't come out well, we write to you before engraving. Business orders always get a proof.
Which photo should I choose?
A sharp photo with a subject that stands out. On slate, photos with a dark background work especially well: a pet, a portrait, a silhouette. For photos, the 30 cm square slate is the ideal size.
Will my slate look exactly like the photo?
Almost: slate is a natural stone, and its edges and shades vary from piece to piece. That's what makes yours unique.
Are the slates made in France?
The raw slates come from selected suppliers. Everything else happens at our place in Talais: engraving, painting, fitting the pads, packing and shipping. That's why we say "laser-engraved in our Médoc workshop".
It's a gift: can you ship it directly?
Yes. At checkout, tick "It's a gift" and enter their address: we send them the parcel with no invoice inside (you get it by email), with a handwritten note on a card if you like.
